People will offer to bring you food. Say YES! They won’t keep offering forever. DON’T, like I did, turn down all offers of dinner because you think you have to be the perfect mum and do everything yourself. Now I would love to sit on the sofa while people brought lasagnes to my house. What was I thinking?!

Lots of people will want to come round to see the baby. Say NO! At least until you are ready. DON’T, like I did, allow a constant stream of anyone you’ve ever met to come to the house whenever they want. It’s not about them, it’s about you. And let’s face it, all babies look pretty much the same when they are that tiny – at least, to anyone who isn’t a parent or grandparent. Your mum’s friend and your auntie’s next-door neighbour can wait.

When you do allow people to come over, you might feel you have to make yourself look good like the celebrities in the ‘new baby’ photo shoots for the magazines. DON’T, like I did, put on your holding-in pants and straighten your hair because you think you have to or people will judge you. I promise it doesn’t matter what you look like at this point and don’t let anyone make you feel like it does.
